The Fifty Miracle Principles
of A Course in Miracles
by Kenneth Wapnick
Principle 39
The miracle dissolves error because
the Holy Spirit identifies error as false or unreal.
This is the same as saying that
by perceiving light, darkness automatically disappears.
It is the same thing to say that He
dissolves error, corrects errors, undoes errors, or atones for errors.
He realizes that all errors are false or unreal. There are no gradations
in errors. One times zero is the same as a hundred or a thousand times
zero.
"This is the same as saying that by
perceiving light, darkness automatically disappears." Once you perceive
and recognize the truth of who you are, the errors or the darkness of the
ego will disappear because all that holds them in place are your thoughts
about them. Remember, there is nothing out there that is real. It is only
our thoughts that make the things of the world real in our mind. And once
we do make them real, the ego becomes real. And then we cannot overlook
the ego. As the Course teaches, you cannot forgive a sin once you have
made it real (e.g., text, pp. 593f, T-30.VI.1-3). We cannot say the world
is illusory and nothing but a classroom in which we learn this as long
as we believe that the darkness is real and needs healing and light. The
light is not needed out there, because there is nothing out there. It is
needed within our minds which believe in the darkness, and the darkness,
of course, is nothing but our own guilt. This principle also reflects the
idea that light and darkness are mutually exclusive states. When you turn
on a light in a dark room, the darkness disappears. Turn the light off,
and the darkness returns. That is how "sin" may be understood as well.
Call something a sin, and it has become real and can no longer be seen
as a call for help. Sins call for punishment; the call for help or love
calls for help and love.
